Kas'lami Polokwane

November 23, 2016

From Tembisa in 2014 to Umlazi in 2015 and now Polokwane, Red Bull Kas’lami travels to the coolest townships around South Africa to celebrate local township culture through music, art and dance. With the homegrown talent and vibe that Polokwane offers, it’s no surprise that this year’s Kas’lami will be held here. It’s all going down on the 4th of December, so it’s the perfect way to start the summer month and get into the holidays.

Among those performing is one of Polokwane’s biggest exports King Monada whose anthemic hit “Ska Bhora Moreki” is taking over the airwaves. He is excited to come home and perform there saying: “It’s always a great pleasure performing in my hometown. Being recognised by your own town is a great achievement and feeling.” Despite performing in Limpopo often he is looking forward to playing in Polokwane: “Whenever I perform in my hometown, my fans sing along word for word on every song. I’m looking forward to that more than anything. The love is real.” His performance will be, like always, energetic “with a few laughs here and there as I will be interacting with them a lot.” The lineup also includes house DJs Da Capo and Jullian Gomes, as well as Emtee and many others.

Red Bull Kas’lami will be taking over the PLK Waterland Shisanyama for a day of music, art and dance on the 4th of December starting from 10 am. Alongside the music festival goers can enjoy an exhibition curated by Sindiso Nyoni featuring a variety of local art and popular culture created through a fusion of pen, ink, and digital media.

For aspiring DJs, producers, and interested parties Kas’lami will also be hosting a public workshop on the 2nd of December with house DJ and producer Da Capo, who will be speaking about all aspects of the industry as well as his personal journey. “I’ll be sharing my experience of the music industry and my personal tips on producing music,” says Da Capo, adding that “if you’re a budding producer you should not miss this opportunity.” The lecture will be followed by a listening session for established and aspiring DJs and producers to exchange ideas and music while exploring different types of sound.

Tickets are R80 at Computicket and R120 at the door
