Aotearoa soul: New Zealand’s rising singer-songwriter and Academy alumni Louis Baker knocks out a stellar solo performance. Recorded live in Barcelona.
Given the enviable density of talent within the Aotearoa soul scene, it’s no surprise there are even more gifted folks yet to discover. Meet Louis Baker: a full-time musician and guitar teacher, Louis is right in the middle of the buzzing New Zealand scene that’s spearheaded by Fat Freddy’s Drop, Electric Wire Hustle, and Isaac Aesili’s Funkommunity. A guitarist since eleven, and a singer since age sixteen, Louis creates his trademark soul sound that owes as much to the introvert folk of CSNY as to the intriguing directness of Motown era Detroit. Louis Baker is regularly performing his ornately toned musings around the world: solo, alongside electronic sound scientists, or with a full live outfit.
